S3 Innovations is a consulting and technical development studio led by Joshua A. Silverman, Ph.D. We help ambitious technical ventures make better decisions and build better products, drawing on decades of experience founding, scaling, and leading deep-technology companies.

Over more than twenty years, our work has spanned biotechnology, sustainable materials and protein, climate and methane technology, machine learning applied to taste and smell, and protein-based therapeutics. Across those domains the throughline has been the same: take a genuinely hard technical idea and do the unglamorous work of turning it into a fundable, buildable, commercial business.

Josh Silverman is a serial founder and executive with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Stanford University and a B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego. He has founded and led multiple venture-backed companies, raised tens of millions in financing from seed through Series A, negotiated multi-year corporate partnerships, secured government grants and contracts, and built and managed teams across technical, legal/IP, and business development functions. His scientific work has been published in Nature Biotechnology, including a cover article on avimer proteins. Josh is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
